Hi! Quick update to firstly thank you all for reading and clicking and subscribing and opening! I never thought that this little newsletter that I started 6 months ago would have any subscribers. So, the fact that I have a small but growing list of subscribers and readers who interact, post, email or text to ask me questions or make comments that they enjoy reading, really makes me happy. Early this year, in January, I cut out a quote from a magazine that said “I discovered travel writing at midlife” and put it on my fridge. Travel writing can mean a lot of things and I’m happy to be in this space even if it’s not the first thing one might think of when it comes to travel writing.
That said, it’s time to branch out a bit. I was locking up my bike at my friend’s house on Canada Day for a get-together and when I realized I had 4 new emails from Substack and Stripe, I’d gotten my first paid subscription. THANK YOU ELIZABETH <3. I thought oh wow someone wants to pay for this! What am I going to do that is extra for this person, other than write her a thank you email?
Since I’d already been thinking about what to offer if I did branch out and write an extra, paid newsletter each month, I already had some ideas. I finally figured it out. Starting in August there will be one extra newsletter featuring:
destination guides with links and maps and photos
reader questions answered about destinations
more travel or travel-adjacent links and in-depth features like interviews
The extra/paid edition will also give you the opportunity to ask questions if you have an upcoming trip and want ideas or help planning and want a short organized travel guide for a destination. This will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis each month because I am only one person. That may also evolve if there is a demand that I can’t meet or if I need to prioritize. I am also open to suggestions on what YOU want as readers, free or paid. Please do email or comment.
I don’t know how the paid edition will evolve but I can promise one extra per month, published when it is published, though I’m going to shoot for the 20th of each month, plus the two free editions. I have fun writing the free editions and they will not go away! I am going to plan out the remainder of the year’s paid content and publish the theme/content schedule in the July 15th free edition. I hope that makes sense. Currently, the paid edition is $5/month or $55 if you join annually. Cancel or unsubscribe at any time.
