Interesting reads. Question: how does one pick a travel guide? There are so many..but also a visit to my local bookstore made me wonder whether we have moved away from this traditional method of information-gathering prior a trip?

Hi Julie, thanks for your comment! I do think travel guides should be picked based on budgets and your interests. I think there are a lot of blogs and travel sites in the world that publish guides to destinations and it is difficult do do a one size fits all. My personal favourite guides are usually Lonely Planet and Rick Steves. Both of them usually do a good mix of culture, budget options, variety of activities, hidden gems, etc. I like staying updated about newer restaurants, experiences, etc, via the web and travel blogs or whatever Google finds me. However, I do still appreciate a good old fashioned book. I like being able to highlight, flag, and bookmark parts of it and take it with me and refer to it. I do keep track of my itineraries in spreadsheets - anyone who has ever traveled with me has contributed to one, but I like consulting a variety of things. I also should mention that I have also watched so many episodes of travel shows over the years with Samantha Brown and Anthony Bourdain and they're guides who I find interesting!

I think I might rename what I'll be doing for the "guides" but don't have a name for that yet... :)
